(bt telegraph.) Chhistchuhch, November 7. The metropolitan race meeting was commenced to-day. The weather was excellent, and the attendance was the largest known on the first day of the meeting for many years. FHEE HANDICAP, Of 100 eovs., one mile. Mr Proudfoot's Sir Modred 9st 21b, (H. Thompson) 1 Mr Bates' Hilda Bat 21b, (Wattie) 2 Mrssrs Mason and Vallance's Siesta, 7st 91b (G. Williams) 3 Betting—s to 2on the field. Sir Modred was the favorite. Natator, -\ Matakau, and Legerdemain, also ran. All got away together. Natator was the first to show in front, with Sir Modred second, and Hilda third. Hounding the bottom turn Natator fell back beaten. In the straight Sir Modred came away, and won easy. Time, 1 mm. 45|-secs. ~Y THE DERBY, Of 250 soys., 1£ miles. Hon. W. Kobinson's Cheviot (DerS ritt) 1 Messrs Mason and Vallance's Nonsense (J. Webster) 2 Mr Stead's Leos (Wattie) 3 Won easily. _______
