A sailing match took place on Saturday afternoon between the boats Wave Queen and Revenge for a small stake, which was to be presented by tbe losing boat to St. Andrew's Church, Port Ahuriri. The day was fairly favorable for both boats, and the course was fixed from the pier heads round the ships at the anchorage, round the Pania buoy, and home by the same route. A flying start was effected shortly after 1.30 p.m, the Wave Queen slightly leading until after passing the ships, when the Revenge gradually worked to windward of her opnonent, and rounded the Pania buoy one minute and twenty seconds ahead, which lead she maintained until passing the first ship, when the Wave Queen, by hauling her wind a little, began to get uncomfortably close to the Revenge, but the latter boat improved her position again after passing the Langstone, and, becoming close entered the pier headn, which was the goal, four minutes ahead. A considerable amount of excitement was exhibited by the onlookers at the result, the Wave Queen, by

her previous prowess, being looked on as the certain winner. \ A meeting was held on Saturday afternoon of persons interested in the formation i of a Horticultural Society for Hawke's Bay, His Worship the Mayor presiding. . One of the most pleasant and gentle of aperients is that formed by mixing with a glass of water a teaspoonful of citrate of magnesia, so called from its having been originally found in Magnesia, a city of Lydia. The medicinal qualities of magnesia, like good wine, " need no bush," and when taken in moderate doses it acts like a charm, the effects produced being gateful and invigorating. For young children fluid magnesia is highly recommended. Both compound* may be had in any quantity of Proiessnr Moore, Medical Hall, Waipawa.—[Advt.] The antipathy of physicians to recommend anything to their patients that is not within the range of their own formulas and prescription, argues a lack of confidence in the specifics that are compound to meet the requisitions of diverse diseases. When, therefore, tbe profession go beyond their legitimate pales, and advise the use of preparations already in the market, it is equally conclusive evidence that they attach considerable value to them.
