MELBOURNE CUP AND DERBY.

(Br Cable.) Melbourne, October 27. The acceptances for the Derby closed at 11 a.m. to-day. The following eighteen horses remain in : — Aide-de>Carnp Boolka Calma Debater Prying Pan Gamin G-uesawork H. W. Hobarfc King of the Vale Lunercost Navigator Queen Bess Sir John Stirling Segenhoe Standard Bearer Transferred Trumpet-Major Prometheus has been scratched for the Cup. Stockwell and Cunnamulla had a spin ronnd the course to-day and finished in grand style. The Drummer, Darebin, and King of the Vale also bad a strong gallop. The former had all the best of it, and is fancied a little. Transferred was sent a mile and a quarter and went in excellent style. Sting was stripped and did two miles, finishing well and pleasing his supporters. Saionara went a round of the course and finished strong. There is an immense crowd at the betting rooms to-night. Business is, however, principally on the Maribyrnong Plate, for which it is probable there will be twenty-six starters. The latest betting for the Plate is:—Nerina, 5 to 1 ; Lima (named Diva), 8 to 1; Warwick, 8 to 1 ; Laurence, 8 to 1 ; Kingedale, 12 to 1; Delusion, 14 to 1. The latest Derby betting is:—Even on Navigator (taken) ; Segenhoe, 4 to 1 ; Guesswork, 7 to 1 ; Boolka, 10 to 1 ; Frying Pan, 12 to 1. The probable starters for the Derby are Aide-de-Camp, Boolka, Calma, King of the Vale, Standard Bearer, Guesswork, Segenhoe, Navigator, Transferred, and Frying Pan. There is very little betting on the Cup. Little Jack remains at 100 to 12 ; Cunnamulla and Mistaken, 10 to 1 ; The Drummer, Prometheus, and Savanaka, 26 to 1. October 28. The weather to-day h cold, and a stronge wind is blowing. Betting on the Cup at midnight was as follows:—Sweet William and Little Jack, 7to 1; Sting, Bfo 1 ; Cunnamulla and Mistaken, 10 to 1 ; King of the Vale and Savanaka, 20 to 1 ; Santa Claus and Stockwell, 25 to 1 ; The Assyrian, 33 to The weather this morning is dull and threatening. The betting on Navigator is even, and he haa been backed to win for £2000 at this price. Segenhoe has come up with a rush, also being backed to win £2000; the stable is confident that he can beat Navigator. The price about Guesswork is 6 to 1 ; Boolka, 100 to 8 (taken) ; 100 to 10 is offered about Frying Pan ; 100

to 8 is offered about Transferred and Calma; King of the Vale is at 5 to 1, and a large commiasion has been executed on him at this price. For the Derby, and in the Cup 100 to 5 has been taken ; Little Jack is now firmer than ever, and with Sweet William are at 7to 1. Little Jack seems more in favor with the public, however. Stockwell is being backed for small sums. Navigator, Segenhoe, and Guesswork are being strongly backed for the double event. There is great excitement.
