NELSON.
Ootober 23. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a young man named Francis Jas. Hodgson, who was formerly a clerk in the National Bank. He is charged with stealing 500 soys. A little over a year ago Hodgson was transferred to Christchurch, and after his departure it was found that his accounts had been tampered with, and that £500 had been taken from the reserve safe. It is stated that Hodgson used £200 of the earn taken to make good a deficiency, and that be took the balance to Christchurch. Hodgson was dismissed from the bank and joined the Armed Conetabulary, from which he was recently dismissed. On coming here, Mr Black, the manager of the bank, had an interview with Hodgson, who admitted taking the money, and stated that he had planted a portion in St. John's Churchyard, Christchurch. On informotion being sent to Christohurch, £250 was unearthed. The bank, after delaying the matter some time, ultimately decided to prosecute Hodgson, but the thing getting wind Hodgson has evaded the police.
