NELSON.
October 19.
The Motueka correspondent of the Colonist writes :—" Mr Stevens, MII.R. for Rangitikei, has visited this district for the purpose of negotiating with some native owners resident here for a large block of land at Awatare in the Collingwood district, consisting of 40,000 acres. I think the block is 27 miles long by 7 miles broad, and the price is stated at £10,000. Mr Stevens, who represents a company as agent, has been so far successful as to obtain the consent of the natives interested residing in this district, and has gone to Waitahi, Otago, accompanied by three or four natives from here and Mr Hursthouse, M.H.R., to obtain the consent and signatures of the owners residing there. It is ex-peci-d that a Land Court will be held here shortly."
