DIOCESAN SYNOD.

The Synod met in St. John's schoolroom at 4 p.m. Present: The Bishop of Waiapu (President), Archdeacon Williams, Kev9. De Berdt Hovell, C. L. Tuke, (J. Jordan, H. Maelean, B. IT. Granger, F. H.Long, J. C. Eccie?, S. M. Spencer, H. W. St. Bill, A. C. Soutor, J. Hill, S. Williams, and Mesere R. C.
v Pasley, W. Ellison, G. A. Oliver, T. I Morrisoß, J. J. Buchanan, T. Tunks, H. # Wilding, J. B. Fielder, John Nairn, M. / H. Smith, J. Thornton, T. K. Newion, H. A. Banner, A. J. Cotterill, M. R. Miller, H. Hill, and G. Pritchard. The proceedings were opened with prayer. Od the motion of the Rev. H. W. St. Hill it was resolved " That the report of the Standing Committee be adopted by the Synod." The Rev. De Berdt Hovell moved, " That the report of the select Committee on a suggested possible amendment of General Synod Statute No. 5 (having reference to the appointment of pastors to parishes) be adopted by the Synod." The following is the gist of the subcommittee's report referred to :—•" In the event of serious differences of opinion arising in any duly constituted parish between the curate and the parishioners thereof, it shall be competent for the latter to proceed as follows : — (a) A statement of the difficulty may be forwarded to the Bishop of the Diocese, signed by not les9 than two-thirds of the communicants of the parish, a copy of euch statement being at the same time furnished to the curate, (ft) If at the expiration of six months there is a continuance of the difficulty, a second statement may be forwarded to the Bishop, '. signed as aforesaid, a copy thereof being furnished to the curate. Upon the receipt/)f the second statement, the Bishop Hp shall seek the advice of the standing committee of the Diocese, and with their consent and approval may dissolve the relationship existing between the aforesaid curate and the parishioners." Mr Montague Smith seconded the motion, which, after a lengthy discussion, was put and lost, the following amendment proposed by Archdeacon Williams being substituted : —" That the adoption of the report of the select committee on General Synod Statute No. 5 be deferred until the question has been considered in committee of the whole Synod, and that the Synod go into committee to-morrow at 2.30 for this purpose." A vote of thanks was accorded to the Rev. J. Hill for conducting the special service at St. John's on Tuesday evening. The following appointments were confirmed :—Standing Committee, Revs. S. William?, De Berdt Hovell, H. W. St. Hill, and Messrs A. J. Cotterill, J. B. Fielder, M. R. Miller, T. K. Newton, and 1 J. N. Williams. Diocesan Nominations, Rev. S. Williams, Messrs A. J. Cotterill andß. C. Pasley.
The list of clergymen entitled to vote in the election of clerical representatives to the General Synod was then revised, and notices of motion were given, after which the Synod adjourned to 4 p.m. the following day.
