WAIROA COUNTY COUNCIL.

An important special meeting of the Wairoa County Council was held on Saturday to consider the Chairman's resolution to borrow £7000 for main roads under the Roada and Bridges Construction Act. All tbe councillors were present except Cγ Haseell.

Cr Gemtnell, the chairman, briefly introduced the motion, and permitted it to be amended so as to take the schedule of works first. The following items were agrepd to item con:— Opoiti bridge and approaches, £2000; Mangatawa bridge, £260 ; formation 110 chains of dray road between Mangatawa and Opoiti, £1,100 ; dray road Tariroa to Waihua, £530; Waibua bridge, £600 ; dray road Waihua to Mohaka, £1500; Waikare dray bridge, £800; improvement of southern end ofTongoio road, £200; widening, straiehteniug, reformation, and bridging of dray road Wairoa to Turiroa, £1000; total, £7000. It was decided to apply for the whole amount at once, and take a poll of the ratepayers as to whether a special rate should be struck to provide the Council's share, or to provide it out of the ordinary funds. Notice of motion was given to take a poll of the ratepayers of the Clyde riding re raising a loan to bridge the Wairoa river at the present ferry. Hawker's and peddler'a licenses were reduced from £5 to £2. It was decided to embank six chains additional of the Wairoa river. Mr M. R. Miller was elected to represent Wairoa on the Board of Governors of the Napier High School. Permission was given to Messrs Tanks and Worihington, Te Kapu, to erect a goods shed on the Waikaremoana road, and to Mr T. Torr for a goods shed abutting on tbe Wairoa wharf. Mr Shaw gave notice to move pro forma that the Beach road at Mohaka be taken over under the Public Works Act. The Chairman gave the Council a right of road free through section 16, Turiroa.
