ALEXANDRIA.
October 11.
The new army which is about to be organised under the direction of Baker Pasha will be limited to 10 000 men, and will be officered only by Circassians and Turks. Commissions will not be given to any officers who took part in the recent rebellion.
Rumors are to hand from Cairo that Arabi has been maltreated in prison, and Sir Edward Malet, the British ConsulGenera), consequently caused inquiries to be made as to the truth or otherwise, of the statement the enquiries have proved the report to be without foundation.
The seizure of a considerable number of concealed arms has been made at Tantasi. The Arab Scbiek there, who has been inciting the populance to acts of lawlessness, has been arrested and subjected to one hundred lashes.
