The Eev. Edward Bonverie Pusey, 8.D., son of the late Hon. Philip Bouv.erie (half brother of the first Earl of Eador), who assumed the name of Pusey by. royal license, born in 1800, was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he grntuated B.A. in high fc,onojs, and was elected to a Fellowship at Oriel College, and took his degree of M.A. In 1829 he was appointed Eegius Professor of Hebrew in the University of Oxford, a post to which is attached a Canonry at Christ Church. Dr Pusey was one of the earliest and most constant contributors to the ' Tracts for the Times,' and has defended the main doctrines which they were intended to enforce in a variety of letters, phnmpblets, &c ,on which ground his name has been populary used to designate the High Church party. In 1843 he was suspended from the office of preaching before the University on account of a sermon on the Holy Eucharist. Dr Pusey's published works include, besidea a variety of sermons, many adaptations of Roman Catholic books of devotation for the use of the English Church, elaborate treatises on Baptism, tho Eucharist, the Eoyal Ecclesiastical Supremacy, and marriage with a decease! wife's sister. Amongst them may be mentioned :—"Kemarks on Cathedral Institutions,' published in 1815 ; Koyal Supremacy, Ancient Precedents,'in 1850; 'Doctrine of the Keal Presence Vindicated,' in 1855; ' Eoal Presence of the Body and Blood of Christ,' and ' History of the Councils of the Church, A.D. 51-381,' in 1859; 'Nino Sermons preached afc (lie University of Oxford, 1843-55,' in 1859 ; ' Minor Prophets, with Commentary,' in 1862; ' Daniel the Prophet, Kine Lectures,' and ' Everlasting Punishment a Sermon,' in 1863; and ' Church of England a Portion of Christ's one Holy Catholic Church,' in 1865.
