WELLINGTON RACING CLUB.
(BY TELEGRArH.) Wellington, October 12. At a meeting of the Wellington Racing Club last night the question of constructing a railway line to the course cropped up. It was ultimately decided that a deputation of stewards should wait on the Minister of Public Works on the subject. With regard to the programme for the summer meeting it was decided to do away with the Maiden Plate of £50, and have a Selling Race of £60 in its stead. The Consolation Race was reduced by £10. The Hutt Park Stakes were increased from £100 to £125, the second horse to receive £20, and the Ihird horse £5 from the stakes. The race meeting will be held on the first Thursday and Friday in February. It was resolved that the stewards should act as handicappers. Nominations for the Cup will close on the 6th of November. At the next meeting a motion will be proposed to remove the disqualification of R. Ray and the horse Mata. The following is the programme for the summer meeting : — First day : Flying Stakes of £75, Hurdle Handicap of £60, Hack Hurdles of £25, Wellington Cup of £500, Hack Race of £10, Selling Race of £60. Second day : Railway Stakes Handicap of £60, Hutt Park Stakes Handicap of £125, Hurdle Handicap of £75, Wellington Racing Club Handicap of £200, Hack Race of £10, Consolation of £40. It was decided that the winner of the Selling Race should be sold for £200; any surplus to go to the club.
