The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report under date London, October 2nd :—The wool market sales closed firmly on the 2nd instant at the level of last series" The sales comprised about 322,000 bales, of which 161,000 bales were taken for export ; 40,000 bales have been held over for future disposal. Washed, scoured, and greasy long staple Merino are in demand, as also fine cross-breds. For crossbred lamb 3 the market is firmer.

Ne y Zealand securities :—Five per cent 10-40 loan, 104.-, ex-dividend ; five per cent 1889 loan, 106 ; four and a half per cent 1879-1904 loan, 100£. Adelaide wheat, ex-warehouse, 46a; New Zealand wheat, ex-warehouse, 42s to 45s 6d. Adelaide flour, ex-warehouse, 335. Australian tallow, best beef 44s 6d, and best mutton 465. October 3. Consols remain at lOOfc. New Zealand securities have advanced by 1 per cent all round, and are to-day quoted as follows : —Five per cent 10-40 loan, 1051, ex-dividend ; five per cent 1889 loan, 107 ; four and a half per cent 1879-1904 loan, loan, 101£. The markets for colonial breadstuffs and tallow are without quotable change. Melbotjdne, October 4. Malting barley is in fair demand at 5s Id to 5s 3d ; shipping wheat continues firm at 6s lOd to 6s lid ; New Zealand oats have advanced Id to 2d during the week, and are now firm and in active demand at 4s Id to 4s 3d for feeding, and 4s 4d te 4s 6cl for milling qualities.
