WELLINGTON.

October 6. The steamer Australia, with the September English mails sailed from San Francisco for Auckland on the 24th ultimo, one day later than her time-table date. The City of New York, with the September colonial mails, arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on the 3rd instant, two days earlier than her time-table date. Mr E. G. Wright, M.H.R., arrived here from Christchurch this morning to confer v/ith the Governmen with regard to the vacant portfolio, and also the appointment of a Royal Commission to report upon the Middle Island trunk railway.
