WOODVILLE.

CFROM OTJB OWN CORRESPONDENT. - ) September 28, 1882. The weather since Sunday evening has been of an extremely boisterous character, the constant showers of rain with hail-storma from the north-west being very cold, and brineing us back to midwinter. We are apt to grumble at this state of affairs, especially wheu we hear that you are having the streets watered in Napier. I wish we could send you some water ; you could reckon on a good supply all the year round. Last evening we bad an intellectual treat in the shape of a lecture by the Rev. W. J. Williams, of Wanganui, who gave us a moat interesting account of the lives of Wesley and Whitfield, which was listened to with marked attention throughout, and was highly appreciated by the audience. The Reverend lecturer treated his subject with great ability. Mr J. Moore occupied the chair, and the choir rendered some pieces of music during the evening. Messrs Harvey and Moore sang a duet, " Room Among the Angels," with manifest appreciation of the piece, the alto and treble voices blending beautifully. Miss Hawkin presided at tbe harmonium with efficiency. A collection was taken at the close, to be devoted to the buildine fund of the new Methodist Church. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Williams was carried by acclamation, and the doxology brought the evening's enjoyment to a close. Owing to the heavy rain since Sunday the coaches from Palmerston and Masterton have been unable to cross the Manawatu, but the mails and passengers have been crossed over in boats.
