HAND PHOTOGRAPHS.

The latest craze, that of 'hand photographs, , is due to the fair daughters of the ' Great Republic,' of whom a Paris correspondent writes:—All the handsome American ladies who possess pretty hands (less numerous among the daughters of the Republic of the West than among English girls) are having their bands photographed, and are busily descanting on symmetrical hands, on fingers tapered or otherwise, on tho style of the wrist, and the ' indications ' thus afforded in respect of character, and which, enlightened by a study of the two curious genius Desbarolles—they declare to be as indicative of the talents and temper of each individual as those afforded by the face or the head. You cannot go into an American drawing-room without hearing Desbarrolian talk of ' musical hands,' 'unemotional joints,' ' sensitive fingers,' ' inspirational,' ' practical,' or ' inactive,' ' nails and finger tips ;' ' thieves' knuckles ' and ' murderere' thumbs' are also figuring largely in these disquisitions ; and those who have read Desbarolles are eager to get hold of, inspect, and analyse all the hands that come in their way. A few years since the prevailing ' craze' was the game of ' Bog ;' then came ' Bezique ;' they have waxed and waned, and the new furore will doubtless do the same.
