AUCKLAND.

September 27,

Elisabeth Allen, formerly the wife of an officer iv the British army, was charged yesterday with the larceny of a quantity of dress cloth. She was discharged, but a conviction was recorded against her. Messrs Joseph and Son's shop in Ponsonby-road was set on fire last evening by the capsize of a kerosene lamp. Damage was done to the extent of £60 before the fire was suppressed.

Mr B. Tonks has been appointed a director of the Mutual lasurance Company, The share list closes on September 30.
