CORRESPONDENCE.

THE WAIPAWA MEETING,

[To the Editor o£ the Daixy Telegraph.] g IR) _In your sub-leader upon the Waipaw'a meeting I see you refer to the fact that the speakers were not representative men. Iα explanation I would say that we only emerged from our obscurity to support the resolution already passed by our influential and representative settlers a few hours previously. Before finally retiring to my wonted obscurity I cannot refrain from expressing my surprise that both you and your contemporary should have wasted so much of your valuable space and attention upon such valueless utterances, and entirely ignored the resolution of the representative body of the county. Perhaps, however, in your opinion the Waipawa County and its Couucil are also obscure and insignificant. The following is the resolution referred to :—" That this Council regrets the action of the Xapier Harbor Board, at its last meeting, in agreeing to offer £500 for competitive designs for a harbor at Napier, based upon data to be furnished by the Board, without having first obtained the opinion of a first-class marine engineer as to the beet site for a harbor for Hawke's Baj , , and

that a copy of this resolution be sent to the members representing Waipawa County on the Harbor Board."—l am, &c, R. Habding. Mount Vernon, 9th September, 1882. [The resolution of the Council wae published in our report of the proceedings of that body, and was not " entirely ignored" as our correspondent asserts. — Ed. D.T.]
