September 11. Mr J. H. Beale, an old colonist, died suddenly on Saturday. A large comet was observed at 4 o'clock yesterday morning

Chas. H. Monckton, photographer, was charged at the Police Court on Saturday with a breach of the Fine Arts Copyright Act in copying portraits of Tawhiao without the permis&ion of the owner, Mr John Blackman, of Fulman's photographic studio. The evidence was voluminous. It was etated that it was the custom to take likenesses of Maori celebrities without pecuniary consideration. JudgmeDt was reserved.
