WASTE LANDS BOARD.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30. The Board met at 11 a.m. Present—The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Lieut. Colonel Lambert, Mr R. Harding, and Mr T. Tanner. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : — Prom the Chief Surveyor, forwarding selection maps, reports, and valuation of lands in the Woodville and Tahoraite survey districts tbat had been laid off in accordance with resolution of the Board. From Mr Norman Campbell, request--iog permission to erect a sawmill on rural section No. 126, Woodville. —The consideration of the application was postponed pending receipt from tbe Banger of a report on the nature and value of the timber on the land. applications. From Messrs C. O. aud T. A. Thompson, for a 99 years' lease of section 4, Waitara survey district, containing 3989 acres, for coal mining purposes.—The Board decided that they could not grant a license to occupy so large an area for so long a period ; but, being desirous to further tbe applicants views as far as possible, the Board were willing to amend their resolution o£ the 28th of October, and grant a provisional license to the applicants for 200 acres under clause 90 of the Land Act of 1877, for a period of three years, at a yearly rental of £5 and a payment of the authorised fee of £3 3s in each case; but prior to an application for lease being considered the Board would require at least one too of coal to be delivered to the Railway Department for the purpose of being tested. From E. T. Woodcock, for an extension of time in which to make the necessary improvements on section 22, block 12, Tahoraite survey district. — The Board directed that Mr Woodcock be informed that the next instalment will be due oh the Ist of January next, and must be paid within 30 days from that date ; that with reference to the cultivation of land he has up to the 30th of June for making the necessary improvements ; and that the law is imperative that for a breach of these conditions tbe right of the selector to hold and acquire the land described in his license will be forfeited. ranger's report. The Ranger's report on certain landheld on deferred payment having been read, it was decided that R. R. Harper, selector of small farm allotment No., 14, block 9, Tahoraite survey district, and G. Gilbert, selector of small farm allotment No. 16, in the same block, have fulfilled the conditions required during the first year's occupation; and that when small farm allotment No. 11, Kumeroa, is offered at auction the estimated value of the improvements—r£47 10s —shall be paid in cash by the purchaser, and on section 28, block, 3, Ngamoko, the estimated value of improvements—£2o —shall be paid iv cash by the purchaser. MISCELLANEOUS. The Board rescinded their resolution of the 28th of November so far as related to applications Nos. 52 and 53 to take up lands on deferred payments. The Chairman read some correspondence between himself and the UnderSecretary for Crowq Lands relative to the issue of a license to occupy rural section No. 16S, Woodville survey district. The Board approved a draft form of license to occupy rural section No. 11 a, Bush Mills Special Settlement. It was decided that three in tbe Bush Mills Special Settlement, one in the Victoria, three small farm allotments, at Kumeroa, one section at Ngamoko, 18 In the Woodville survey district,; and two in the Tahoraite survey district, be offered for sale on deferred payments; and that 14 sections in the Woodvile survey district, and two in tbe Tahoraite survey district, be offered for sale for cash. . The Board then adjourned.
