HAWKE'S BAY RACING CLUB SUMMER MEETING.
This meeting was not very largely attended, but the day was all that could be desired, and the course was in excellent condition. The first event on the programme was the Handicap Hubdle Race, of 20 soys (with a sweep of 2 soys added); 2 miles. Mr P. Murtagh's b g Angler, 12st 21b (Murtagh) 1 MrJ.R. Jones' c g A,G., list 21b (Jones) 2 Mr W. Broughton's bgßuahine, lOst 71b 3 Resulted in a dead heat between Angler and A. Q. In the deciding heat an exciting race took place between the two with the above result. Maiden Plate, of 20 soys. (with a sweep of 2 soys added), 1£ miles. Mr P. Murtagh's Tim Whiffler, 9st 1 Mr J. R. Jones' Ohikakarewa ... 2 Won by half a length. Pakowhai Handicap, of 25 soys (with a sweep of 2 soys added). MrW. Robinson's Parawhenua, Bst 1 Mr P. Murtagh's Angler, 9st ... 2 Captain Russell's Sydney, 7st 71b ... 3 Mr Middleton's Soukar, Bst 10lb ... 0 Won by halt" a length. Tbotting Race, Of 15 soys ; 2 miles. Mr G. Smith'sb m Otaira (Shaw) ... 1 Mr Kehu's b g Taupo 2 Mr J. R. Jones'br g Suttonite ... 3 Eleven started, but only the above named three completed the distance which was sovered easily by Otaira. Christmas Stakes Handicap, Of 30 soys, with a sweep of 2 soys added; 2 miles. Mr J. R. Jones' Prim, Bst 1 Mr W. Ruddick's Merlin, 9st ... 2 Mr W. Middleton's Soukar, Bst ... 3 Wanganui, 7st 0 Merlin led until half-a-mile from home when Prim came up to the front. A good race resulted in favor of Prim by a neck. Novel Race, Of4o soys; 1 mile. Mr Broughton's Tare, Bst 13lb ... 1 Mr Murtagh's Tim Whiffler, Bst 131b 2 Mr G. R. Grant's Repudiator, Bst 13lb 3 Won by a couple of lengths. The winner was sold by auction after the race for £35. Hack Race, Of 8 soys, with entrances added; 1 mile. Kuni 1 Miro 2 Nancy 3 Kuni took the lead at the start, winning easily.
