STAGE STRUCK GIRLS.
An American exchange says a terrible epidemic is spreading over Louisville, Kentucky, and unless it is soon got under control may be attended with the most deplorable results. One half of the girls of that city are stage struck —stark, staring, stage Btruck! Hundreds of the residences have been converted info amateur playhouses, •where would-be female stars tear their hair and rave, and split the air with their arms, and talk majestically across imaginary stages to the imaginary music of imaginary orchestras, amidst bursts of imaginary applause and showers of imaginary bouquets. In the dry goods stores young ladies rush up to the counters with inspiration dropping from their eyes in great li links, and in hollow tones command the affrightened clerk 9to " Haste the cringing vassal; pr-r-r-r----roduee and br-r-r-ing into our pr-r r-esenee thy 65 cent hose." In ice saloons maidens shovel the cooling cream into lovely mouths, and sweetly murmur to their escorts: "Now, by me faith, Orlando, but is't not a nectar fit for the gods? Speak, my beloved is it not a dainty fish that graces our festal board ? " And practical Orlando replies, "I bet you!" On the street car the maiden stalks forward to the guard and howls, " What, ho! there charioteer, give me I pray thee diminutive coin for this one dollar bond, an' I will, upon the instant, requite thee for thy service upon this journey." When one of them catches a flea, she holds it at arm's length and roars "H-a-a-a I have the at last, vile craven! Eor many nights thy visitations to my chamber havo br-r-r-pught unrest. Now at la-n-a-st thou art in me clutches and I will shower vengeance upon thy thr-rice accursed head, Die, ?ile inggr-r-rate, and may the seething fires of perdition engulf thy quivering soul for ever-mor-r-r-re ! " Then Bhe opens her fingers to get a good squeeze at him, and the flea hops out and goes home to tell his friends about it. They have got it bad, and none of the old established methods of treatment seem to avail.
