[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir.—There has been a good deal of writing about Captain Russell's darning _ prize, bat the nnin question seems to. , have been overlooked, viz., the rule to be " complied witb, "The darning of a pair of worn-out stockings," whereas the prize was awarded for tbe darning of a pair of new stockings with clean cut holes. Now I ask was that just ?—I am, &c, A. Darner. December 21, 1881. P.S.—I enclose a copy of Captain Russell's own words : — For girls only. (1) A sewing-machine for the best seating and patching the knees of a pair of worn-out man's or boy's trousers. (2) A ladies workbox for tbe best made man'a nightshirt and cutting out a child's pinafore (3) A lady's companion for the best darning of a pair of worn-out stockings. •■+
