A disastrous explosion of fire-damp occurred to-day at Abram colliery, near Wigan, in Lancashire, by which it is feared many lives will be lost. A large number of men were at work at tbe mine at tbe time the disaster occurred, and of these fully two hundred have not yet been rescued.
Accounts to hand from the scene of the colliery explosion near Wigan state tbat all the miners except forty have Deen rescued, and the mortality therefore has been less than was at first expected.
A proclamation has been issued by tbe Irish Executive declaring the Ladies Land League to be an illegal organisation.
Intelligence is to hand from Africa tbat a false prophet in Soudan collected 2600 negro fanatics, and then caused 300 of them to be massacred in cold blood. Tbe rest succeeded in escaping.
