INQUEST.
An inquest was held to-day, before Alexander Kennedy, Esq., J.P., acting coroner, into the cause of death of Henry Croft, who died at the Napier Lunatic Asylum on Saturday last. Mr Charles Palmer was chosen foreman of the jury. W. Miller, superintendent of the Napier Asylum, produced the warrant and medical certificates on which he received the pitient, who was admitted on January sth. 1878. Thomas Barry, an in the Asylum, deposed that tbe deceased, who was under his care, had been bedridden for nine months. He was present at the death of deceased.
Dr. Hitching?, medical officer for the Asylum, paid that since January, 1878, the deceased had been under bis charge. For two years after his admission Croft remained in a similar condition to when he was first admitted. Since that time, however, he had gradually declined, owing to development of the disease of the brain, from which he died. An open verdict in accordance with the medical testimony was returned.
