THE H.B. COUNTY CONTEST.

fTo THE EdITOE OP THE DAILY TkIEGBAPIi.] Sin, —I regret to have heard the report that tbe supporters of Captain Russell in the late contest are taking their beating badl}'. It ia reported that some of them have withdrawn their business from certain tradesmen, and some working men on stations —suspected Nuttoni9?s— have been singled out for as soon as slack times arrive. If this be true it ia a great pity, because the conteat lyin;;, as it did, between two thorough-frying Hawke'a Hay men, and both in reality belonging lo the same political party, at tbe next elections tbe feeling engendered now may break out afresh, and when the united action of all might bo desirable a breach in the ranks would be discovered that could not be Sealed. The late contest was one that was purtly personal, aod tbe result should not he allowed lo create a split in what is known as the Hawke'e Bay party.—l am, &c., December 14, 1881.
