I HAVE been thoroughly beaten, and am not ashamed to own it. The fight from the first was one of too great a magnitude—two influential newspapers and a powerful politician being heavy odds. J believe the newspnpers which h»ve oppoted me will, now the election is decided, " own up " that what hns been said against me in their columns was not intended to-be interpreted into reflections upon my character, but as implements of c eetioneering warfaie only.
