AN ELECTION DREAM.

BY TIM O^CONNOE,

I dreamt a dream this was that same, That to Waipawa once there came, Three Candidates ; one old, two new, And each did neigh as on they flew. Excelsior! They started off in splendid style, But scarcely had they gone a mile, Before the pace began to tell, Then Ormond's Jock alone did yell Excelsior! Away they went with lightning speed, The pace fast telling on each steed,! Both whip and spur were freely plied, But Ormond's Jock alone he cried Excelsior! Sid Johnston he now dropped behind, And soorr poor Smith began to find That he was falling to the rear, While Ormond's Jock cried out so clear, Excelsior! They now came running up the straight. And 'twas not long they had to wait, For soon the Judge was heard to say, ORMOND'S won the race to-day. Excelsior!
