CONSISTENCY UNITES PARTIES.
[To the Editor of the Daily Teiegrat-hJ] Sib, —How is it that the publicans and the Good Templars can unite over Mr Buchanan ? Is it because last election he said, in reply to a cry of " how about a compensation clause ?" " he must, with regard to that, remind those present that the trade as at present conducted was carried on for the public convenience and with tbe public sanction, and it would be an unjust thing if people who had been in- .y* duced to embark their capital in thebusi- T ness were deprived of their licenses without being fairly compensated. To do anything else would be to strike at the root of public faitu." This extract is from the Evening Star of September 2nd, 1879, and probably accounts for the publicans support. But how about the Good Templars ? Hoping Mr Buchanan will explaim himself on this point.—l am, &c, Long Beer. December 5, 1881.
