NAPIER HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting was held in the Council Chamber at 2.30 p.m. on Friday. In the absence of Mr Tanner, who was indisposed, His Worshio the Mayor took the cbair. There were present his Worship the Mayor, Dr deLisle, and Messrs Cotterill, McKay, Smith, and Miller. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The report of the visiting committee was then read as follows :— ■ Thoroughly inspected Hospital, the cooking and serving dinners, and quality of same, perfectly satisfied us that all was as the Board would desire it to be. On application of one of the in-patients to occupy the porter's lodge, and attend to the duties of porter, appointed him to same at a salary of 10s per month, subject to sanction of the Board. We recommend that no orders be given to out-patients in future except to those persons who are in need of free medical aid, but that any person shall be at liberty to consult Dr Menzies. at the Hospital on the same terms and conditions as they would consult any other medical man, in charging his own fees, it being clearly understood that no medicine shall be given from the Hospital to such persons, prescriptions to be used where medicine is necessary. Instructed secretary to write to Charitable Aid Society, requesting them to grant passage money for an old man in the Hospital for a sea voyage to Sydney or Newcastle and back, the Surgeon Superintendent believing same would be most beneficial. Instrueced secretary to procure two ladders required, at a cost not exceeding £2. Instructed secretary to make a round of the stations and endeavor to get the subscription lists issued to same filled up. Instructed secretary to procure and give out six more Hospital boxes as requested by him. J. H. Vatttieb F. J. deLisle After some discussion it was adopted with the exception of the out-patient clause, which was ordered to stand over until the next meeting, Dr. deLisle stating that Dr. Menzies would concede a reduction of £100 peranuum salary if the clause was agreed to. The secretary reported that the Charitable Aid Society would furnish a sea passage asrequested,and the other instructions of the visiting committee h>td been carried out. He was instructed to have the accounts with the Waipukurau -Hospital satisfactorily settled. The secretary reported that he had obtained and paid in £17 8s out of the subscription boxes. The secretary was instructed to sell the gasoline apparatus and materials. He pointed out that further beds were urgently required, and was instructed to order same after consultation with the surgeon superintendent. Messrs Tanner and J. N. Williams were appointed visiiing committee for the present month. A list of subscribers of £1 Is and upwards was ordered to be prepared by the end of the month, with voting papers attached for the election of new committee for ensuing year. A letter of thanks was ordered to be sent to Mr Lyndon for his bequest of a bath chair. The treasurer was instructed to apply to Wellington for the overdue subsidy. The following return of out patients from June Ist to November 30 was submitted:—Out patients, 240; prescriptions dispensed, 1380. In reply to a question, the secretary stated there was an overdraft at the bank of about £90, and a further sum of £300 to £400 due to tradespeople. It was stated that the clergy had arranged to hold Hospital Sunday tomorrow, and it was hoped the contributions from this source, aud the subscription lists which had been sent out, would place the hospital in a proper financial position.
