The Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting took place yesterday on the Hutt course, which was iv splendid order. The weather was fine. The public made a determined stand against police interference with the sweeps while the totalisators and bookmakers were not interfered with, and to afford a test case the stewards, including Sir William Fitzherbert and his son, Mr H. D. Bell, barrister, and the Hon. John Martin, drew a bat sweep in the presence of the detectives, who were invited to witness it. All the names were taken down, but after this the sweeps were not interfered with. Altogether about 40 names were taken down. hatlway stares.
