November 30

A great conflagration commenced after 2 o'clock this morning atTurlay's bakery.

The properties destroyed are Michael Dunn's furniture warehouse and workshop, Frank Hampson's shop and corn store, Finlay's shop and < bakery, George Shepherd's old butcher's shop unoccupied but owned by Dawson, Dawson's hall, Dawson's largo two-storey hotel, Corbett's bakery and shop, Danks' hotel, and Colling's bootmaker's shop and workroom. The damages amount to about £15,000, of which very little is insured Fears are entertained of a lodger at Dawson's named Peter Alstad having been burned, aod search is now being made.
