MR SYDNEY JOHNSTON AT WOODVILLE.
Mr Sydney Johnston addressed a meeting of the electors in the school-room at Woodville on Monday evening. Mr J. J. Murphy occupied the chair. Mr Johnston repeated to a very large extent the speech that he delivered at Waipawa. Replying to questions he expressed approval of the clauses in the Licensing Act in reference to the election of committees by the ratepayers, and would like the Act to have a fair trial. He would endeavor to push on the railway to connect Woodville from either side. He did not consider that Sir George Grey's land tax would fall more heavily on absentees than the property tax system. He considered that the Legislative Council had done good service in the past, and what they did generally was for the good of the people. He would not favor abolishing the Road Boards or tlie County Council. He would favor the support of the Volunteer forces. A vote of thanks was carried unanimously.
