Election Addresses. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF NAPIER. ' /~1 ENTLEMEN—Statements having been made to I me that uncertainty exists whether in the coming 3 contest for your representation in the General \ Assembly I shall really appear as a Candidate for : your suffrages, I take this early opportunity of ' removing doubt on the point by plainly saying it I is my intention one j again to seek your votes, with political views that have undergone no material chonge since I last solicited your confidence. Kecont } political events must, I think, have served to point unmistakably to the necessity in this community of 3 some base for united and concerted action being j taken t>y its members on loading questions. That • necessity ia one that I hold to be of pi imary import- > ance—let the shade of individual opinions differ fe ! it may on minor maltors. j Tour very obedient servant, 1 JOHN BUCHANAN". . ■— »'" i TO THE ELECTORS OF NAPIER.. /Ti ENTLEMEN—I have the honor to inform you that I intend to seek your suffrages at the coming election, I will address a public meeting shortly, and lay before you my reasons for coming forward. In the meanwhile I ask the electors to suspend their judgment. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your Obedient Servant, JOHN W. McDOUGALL. GENTLEMEN.—I pnrpo3e to Address you in the THEATRE ROYAL on the Evening of WEDNESDAY, November 30th. TO THE ELECTORS OF NAPIER, /T\ ENTLEMEN,—An opportunity is now at hand \JT when something must be done to secure the stability and increase the prosperity of Napier, and as at a meeting of the Harbor Board the casting vote of the gentleman who has already solicited your support prevented the Engineer for the Oamaru Breakwater being sent for to report on the feasibility of ' constructing a Breakwater at the Bluff, 1 am inipicased with the conviction that the wellfare of tfapier would not ho promoted by his election to Parliament, and therefore, as a resident of the town, I respectfully offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages. I advocate a property r.nd income tax, and also a graduated tax on land not only for revenue pur. poses but also to promote the settlement of the people and the extension of agriculture. After mature consideration I regret that I can see no basis for united action with Mr Ormond. except by the continued sacrifice of the interests of Napier. Should you do me the honor of electing me, I shall endeavor to obtain an endowment for the Napier Breakwater, and thus prevent a repetition of that Kidnapoer scare by which your interests Wero SO seriously imperilled.
