DIOCESAN SYNOD.
At the meeting of the Synod held yesterday afternoon Mr Fielder moved, " That the Synod go into committee to consider a scheme for the settlement of differences between incumbents and their parishioners, and of the dissolution of the pastoral charge, with a view to the same ' being transmitted to the various Synods in this Ecclesiastical Province, to enable the subject to be brought before the next meeting of the General Synod." The motion was seconded by Mr Bradley and carried. The Synod in committee confirmed the resolution. At the evening sitting the Bishop of Nelson was introduced by the President, and cordially received by the members present. Mr M. R. Miller presented the report of the committee appointed to consider the Bishopric Endowment Fund. The Rev. H. W. St. Hill moved that the report be considered in committee. The Synod then went into committee, and the matter was adjourned until to-day. Mr M. R. Miller then moved the motion, of which he had given notice, in reference to the Clerical Pension Fund, " That in the opinion of this Synod an offertory of one Sunday in each year should be devoted to the Pension Fund by each congregation in the Diocese." Mr Tanner seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. The following resolution was passed in committee:—"That this Synod begs most respectfully to submit for the consideration of the General Synod canon IV. of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States of America, dealing with differences between ministers and their congregations, and of the dissolution of a pastoral charge; and are of opinion that if said canon be adopted it would add to the spiritual welfare of the Church." the motion of Mr Fielder the resoluf tion was adopted by the Synod. Several notices of motion were given, and the Synod adjotirned.
