It is sfated that Mr W. M. K. Vale, who was Attorney-General in the Berry Administration, and who recently resigned his seat in the Legislative Assembly, intends to proceed Bhortly to New Zealand, and to practise at the bar in that colony. The Age to-day publishes a paragraph stating that a deficiency of £5000 was recently discovered in the books of the Union Bank of Australia, and that an official who was implicated has since returned the money. In connection with the recent disclosures in the Bank of Victoria, it is stated that Mr Matheson, the general manager, retires from his position, and that Mr Shann, who succeeded the delinquent Thorpe as teller has resigned. Later. The manager of the Union Bank declares that there is no fouudation for the statement in the Age of to-day regarding defalcations in that institution.
