The New Zealand Times calls the attention of electors to the following important clause in the Act by which if an elector leaves the district in respect to which his name appear on the roll under a residential qualification he will lose the right of voting. To make this perfectly plain, we quote clause 29 of the Regulation of Elections Act, 1881, which reads thas : — The Returning Officer may, and if so required by any scrutineer shall, before allowing any person to vote, put to him the following questions : — (a) " Are you the person ■whose name appears as A.B. on the electoral roll now in force for the Electoral District of [name of district] ?" (h) And, in the case of a person "who proposes to vote in I'especfc of a residential qualification, "Do you still reside in the electoral district of [name of district] ? " (c) " Have you already voted at the present election in the electoral district of [name of district] ?" If any person shall knowingly and wilfully give a false answer to either the above questions, ho shall be deemed guilty of an offence, and shall be liable on conviction to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds ; and any person not answering such questions, or not answering the first and second in the affirmative, and the third in the negative, shall not be permitted to vote. Within the district the elector may change place of residence as often ag he likes, but if he crosses from one side to the other of the line which defines the electoral district boundaries, then bis vote ia lost until he has made new registration.
