BIBLE IN SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION.
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegbaph.] Sir, —In this evening's Telegraph you crronooualy state the ohjpp.t of the Rihie in Schools Association to be the enforcement of a " compulsory" reading of the Bible in the public schools. I cannot understand how you could have made this mistake, considering that you were lately furnished with the report of the committee of the Association, in which its object is distinctly set fortn, "to obtain the sanction of Parliament to the daily reading of the Bible in the public primary schools, subject to a conscience clause, an object, as you may perceive, diametrically opposed to any " compulsory" reading aud aiming only at the removal of that foul blot on our Legislature—the " compulsory" exclusion of the Bible from our public primary schools,—l am, &c,
J. Speae, Secretary Bible in Schools Committee, November 18, 1881.
