MR SUTTON AT CLIVE.

Mr F. Sutton met his constituents afc Cliye last night, and received afc the conclusion of a long address a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. Mr Sutton necessarily travelled over much of the same ground that he did in his former addresses, but he laid greater stress upon his own claims to the confidence of the electors than he had done previously. Mr Sutton said ib had been insifcuated that ho was not a proper person to sit in Parliament because he had trafficked in native lands. In reply to this he would say that he had defended some thirty-five actions arising out of native transactions, and the only two that went to trial he won. The only objections raised to his return were, first, that he had bought , and sold native lands ; secondly, that his purse was not so long nor his estate so broad as was his opponent's. In referecce, however, to native laud transactions, he reminded his hearers that when Captain Russell first came to this province he bought 40,000 acres afc Is 6d per acre, and very shortly afterwards disposed of the property for £40,000. He concluded by impressing upon the electors the duty they owed to themselves and to the country in recording their votes on the polling day.
