IN pursuance of "The Regulations of Elections Act, 1831, " I, Jons Thomas Tylbe, Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Napier, do hereby give notice that by virtue of a writ bearing date the ninth day of November, 1881. under the hand of the Clerk of the Writs, an Election will be held for the return of ono qualified person to serve as member for the said electoral district; And that the nomination of Candidates will take place in tho old Provincial Council Chamber, Napier, at noon, on the first day of December, 1881 ; and that the poll; if necessary, will be taken at the polling place of the said district, on the ninth day of December, 18S1. ELECTION OF MAYOR. ftTfTHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions VV of " The Municipal Corporations Act, 1870," the annual ordinary Election of a Mayor for the Borough of Napier will he held on WEDNESDAY, the 30th day of November, 1881. Now, therefore. I, the undersigned, hereby appoint the Office of the Town Clerk, Napier, as the place, and THURSDAY, the 24th day of November instant, as the day for Nomination of Candidates ; and further notify that any persons desirous of nominating a Candidate, must, before noon of the said 24th day of November cause to be addressed to me, and delivered at the said Office of the Town Clerk, a Nomination Paper in the prescribed form, stating the Christian Names and surname of such Candidate; and each such Nomination Paper must be signed by Two Electors of the Borough, and by the Candidate himself in token of his assent to such Nomination. Every Candidate must, at the time of his nomination, deposit with me the sum of Ten Pounds, which ram, if the Candidate is elected without a poll, or if he polls not less than one-eighth part of the number of votes polled by the successful Candidate, will be returned ; but if he does not poll such one-eighth, the deposit will be forfeited, and paid into the Borough Fund.
