The Union Steam Ship Company's s.s. Albion, Capt. W. Webster, arrived here at 9 o'clock this morning from Auckland, ■which place she left on the 12th instant at 3.30 p.m., and arrived at Gi-isborne on the 13th afc 8 p.m.; left on the 14th at 12.40 a.m., and arrived at Napier the same day as above. Experienced light variable weather throughout. Her cargo, some 30 tons, was lightered by the s.s. Sir Donald, and the steamer left For Southern ports at about 1.30 p.m. The schooner Frank Guy, Captain J. P. Balle, arrived in' the , bay from Newcastle, N.S.W., on Saturday afternoon, and was towed inside this morning by the Boojtim and mored at the breastwork.

The steamer Maori, Captain' Anderson, returned from Wairoa on Saturday night, ■without having got into the river. She will probably leave for there again to-fiight. The Union Steam Ship Campany's s.s. Eotomahana left for Northern ports shortly after five o'clock on Saturday night. The brigantine Endeavor arrived in tbc? roadstead from Oamaru on Sunday morning, ■with a cargo of colonial produce for Messrs Wardrop and Co., but will be unable to get a berth for a day or two. The brigantine Eliza and Mary, Capt. Colin Campbell, arrived yesterday from Dnnedin and Titnaru, -with general cargo for various consignees, but will be unable to get berthage accommodation inside for a day or two

The s.s. Result is expected to get away for Wairoa at 12 o'clock to-night. The lighters Three Brothers, Admiral, and Sir Donald, discharged the cargo, transhipped out of the Rotomahana on Saturday at the breastwork this morning. The magnificent steamer Rome is one of tho latest additions to the fleet of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. She has been built by Messrs Caird and Co., Greenock, who have for a long time built steamers for the company. The Rome was launched on May 14 last from Messrs Caird's yard. She is 430 ft long, 44ft broad, and 36ft deep, with engines of 5100 horse-power indicated. The vessel has been specially built with a view to meet the rapidly developing trade between England and Australia. She will be able to carry about 4000 tons cargo. She 13 excellently fitted up all over, and the walls of the saloon and musio-room inlaid with carved walnut from Italy. There is accommodation for 160 first-class passengers, whose quarters are, contrary to tlie usual custom, sitnateci avmci-snips ana rorwarfl. Fifty second-class passengers will be accommodated at the stern. The vessel i» practically a four-decker, having hurricane deck, main deck, and lower deck. Sheis divided into seven water-tight compartments, and is provided with an extra large number of powerful pumps. The crankshaft, which is of Vickers steel, weighs thirty tons. All the most modern appliances for the rapid loading and discharging of cargoes have been fitted. On Sept. S the Home took a preliminary trip down tho Firth of Clyde as far as Brodick Bay.
