MESSRS P. CUNNINGHAM & COS MONTHLY MARKET REPORT.

Chbistchrch, November 1. Our market shows very little signs of animation, and nothing of importance has characterised business during the past month. Millers are all well. stocked, and are doing their best to meke their purchases last until new wheat is procurable. _ We have been favoured with mild rains and genial weather during the month, and the crops are in a healthy forward state and are hardy enough to stand the approaching season of " nor-westers" ; tho above applies to the crops as far south as Timaru. In the district of Oamaru, rain is much needed, and the growing crops are stunted and parched, and unless rain falls there, at an early date, reaping expenses will not bo more than covered in many instances. We cannot arrive at a definite estimate of the area in crop as yet, but the reports from our various agencies all show that we may look for a large increase in the wheat area, and a corresponding decrease in oats and barley. Wheat is nominally 4s 9d to 5s per bushel. The demand is very small at present, and holders are not at all anxious to push sales. Oats are without change as to price, and a steady demand is maintained ; we quote to-day 2s 2d to 2s 3d per bushel f.o.b. Lyttelton. Timaru oats we can sell at Id or 2d cheaper. Barley has not improved in value owing to the difficulty in procuring freight. Today's value for best malting is 3s 3d to 3s 6d. Flour is without change at £11 10s per ton.
