Messrs Large and Townley have just turned out a billiard table from their workshops that is highly creditable to the skill employed in that establishment. The slates and cushions were of course imported; the ' former are exceptionally heavy, while the ' latter are of the best quality. The table is quite equal to any manufactured in Melbourne, and is £50 cheaper, shipping charges, insurance, duty, &c, being Bayed by the purchase of the locally made article. It will be seen from advertisement that the first play produced will be Shakespeare's comedy "Twelfth Night, or What "Sou Will," with Miss Pomeroy as Viola, Mr Hollo way as Malvolio, and Mr Hoskins as the Clown. Referring to Miss Pomeroy'g delineation of the charming charaoter of , Viola, a Southern contemporary says :— " She ia a perfect mistress Of the dramatic art—commanding in presence, graceful in action, and most admirable in pourtrayal of the varying lights and shades of mirth, allied wit- sympathy and womanly feeling, which render this character at once most difficult to interpret and yet among the most attractive of all Shakespeare's creations." The representations during the week include a number of the most popular of modern plays, and Shakespeare's " Cymbeline" and " Winters Tale." In the duet, " The moon has raised her lamp," Messrs Hill and Gilpin sang I with remarkable power and sweetness, and the former in addition gave " Let me like a soldier fall," and "The death of Nelson" ,in admirable voice and style. Mr Watkin received a hearty recall for his Welsh song. Messrs Hampton and Simpson also rendered good service. A domestic drama entitled " The Return of the Wanderer " formed the 1 seaond party of the programme, and as there 1 was an evident want of thorough preparation throughout the whole performance we prefer to omit a lengthy notice. Of course the object was a most praiseworthy one, and everyone is pleased to. find there are so ) many kindly disposed people in, the town who will take the labour and trouble of getting up a performance of this kind, but if the Gaiety Club wish to retain their hold on public favor the members must devote more care and attention to the study of their respective parts.
