The weather was delightful, and the racing most enjoyable. Great improvements have been made to the course and the general appointments. A new stand has been erected, and the lawn and paddock greatly enlarged. Mr Walters was very successful, the running of the Slander filly surprising everyone. WAVEHLET-WATTOTAHA GUINEAS. Of 105 soys., 1£ miles. Slander filly 1 Ely 2 Five started. A good race between the first two, but the filly showed grand speed. Time, 2 mins. 54 sees. HANDICAP HURDLES, Of 40 soys., 2£ miles. Abolition, lOst 51b 1 Hawthorne, 9st 61b 2 Chandler, list 3 Won easily. Chandler baulked twice, leaving tbe race to the other two. FLYING HANDICAP, Of 40 soys., | mile. Grand Duchess, Bst 121b ... 1 Venture, 7st 10lb 2 Blue Gown, 7st 121b ... 3 Won easily, the Duchess lying back three parts of the distance, and then aping through her horses like a streak of lightning. A splendid race. Merlin led most of the way, with the Duchess second. Coming into the straight French on the Duchess challenged Merlin, and ran a severe race. Finding he could not cut the horse down signalled to the rider of the filly, who came on with a rush, and catching Merlin in the last few strides won on the post by a head. Time, 3 mins. 46 sees.
