(BY TELEGRAPH.) Chhistchurch, November 8. The metropolitan meeting commenced to-day. The weather was threatening, but the attendance was large. Great improvements have been effected on the course since the last meeting, including the erection of a new grand stand of a handsome design, Jockey Club's offices, etc. FREE HANDICAP, Of 100 soys ; 1 mile. Mr Walters' Billingsgate, 9it 71b (Derritt) ... 1 Mr Goodman's Chancellor, Bst 21b (H.Thomson) 2 Mr Williams' Talent, 7st 121b (W. Clifford) 3 Sir George, On Dit, The Poet, The Joker, Rawdon, Duessa, Laertes, and Farewell also started. Betting—s to 1 against Billingsgate and Sir George, 15 to 1 against Chancellor, and 10 to 1 the others. Chancellor led, but soon was displaced by Talent, who led to the rails, v/hen Billingsgate and Chancellor went to the front, the former winning by half a length. Time, Imm 46£ sees. THE DEHIir.
