TO THE ELECTORS OF NAPIER, GENTLEMEN,— An opportunity ia now at hand when something must be done to secure the stability and increase the prosperity of Napier, and as at a meeting of the Harbor Board the casting vote of the gentleman who has already solicited your support prevented the Engineer for the Oamaru Breakwater being sent for to report on the feasibility of constructing a Breakwater at the Bluff, 1 am impressed with the conviction that the wellfare of Napier would not be prjmoted by his election to Parliament, and therefore, as a resident of the town, I respectfully offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages. I advocate a property and 'income tax, and also a graduated tax on land not only for revenue turposes, but also to promote the settlement of the people and the extension of agriculture. After mature consideration I regret that I can see no basis for united action with Mr Ormond. except by the continued sacrifice of the interests of Napier. Should you do me the honor of electing me, I shall endeavor to obtain an endowment for the Napier Breakwater, and thus prevent a repetition of that Kidnapner scare by which your interests were go seriously imperilled. I have the honor to be, gentlemen. Your obedient servant, JUSTIN M-SWEBNEY. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIPAWA, ENTLEMEN,—I invite you to meet me at the Oddfellows' Hall, Waipawa, on the evening of MONDAY NEXT, at 8 o'clock". . Your Obedient Servant, SYDNEY JOHNSTON. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF NAPIER. /~i ENTLEMEN—Statements having been made to me that uncertainty exists whether in the coming contest for your representation In the General Assembly I shall really appear as a Candidate for your suffrages,- I take this early opportunity of removing doubt on the point by plainly saying it is my intention onci again to seek your votes, with political views that have undergone no material change since I last solicited your confidence. Recent political events must, I think, have served to point unmistakably to the necessity in this community of some base for united and concerted action being taken by its members on leading questions, That necessity ia one that I hold to be of primary importance—let the shade of individual opinions differ as it may ou minor matters. Your very obedient servant, JOHN BUCHANAN. HAWKE'S BAY DISTRICT. TMMEDIATELY after the issue of tho Writs I shall ask the Electors to meet me in public at Clive, Hastings, Taradale, Puketapu, Havelock, and Petane; and at any other place that may suit public convenience. Dates of meetings will be notified In due course. F. SUTTON. 10th October, 1881. TO THE ELECTORS OF HAWKE'S BAY.
