TO THE ELECTORS OF NAPIER, GENTLEMEN,— An opportunity Is now at hand when something must be done to secure the stability and increase the prosperity of Napier, and as at a meeting of the Harbor Board the casting vote of the gentleman who has already solicited your support prevented the Engineer for the Oatnaru Breakwater being Bent for to report on the feasibility of constructing a Breakwater at tho Bluff, 1 am impressed with the conviction that the wellfare of Napier would not be promoted by his election to Parliament, and therefore, as a resident of the town, 1 respectfully offer myself as a candidate for your su -rages. I advocate a property and (income tax. and also a graduated tax on land not nnly for revenue r-ur-poses, but also to promote the settlement of the people and the extension of agriculture. After mature consideration I regret that I can see no basis for united action with Mr Ormond. except by the continned sacrifice of the interests of Napier. Should you do me the honor of electing me, I shall endeavor to obtain an endowment for the Napier Breakwater, and thus prevent a repetition of that Kidnapner scare by which your interests .were so seriously Imperilled. I have the honor to be, gentlemen. Your obedient servant, JU3TIN M-SWEENEY. HAWKE'S BAY DISTRICT. TMMEDIATELY after the issue of the Writs I shall ask the Electors to meet me in public at Clive, Hastings, Taradale, Puketapu, Havelock, and Petane; and at any other place that may suit public convenience. As soon as the writs are issued, I shall hold meetings in all parts of your County, and explain fully to you my opinions on tho various political questions of the day.. I remain, , Your obedient servant, SYDNEY JOHNSTON. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF NAPIER. fi ENTLEMEN—Statements having, been made to mo that uncertainty exists whether in the coming contest for your representation In the General Assembly I shall really appear as a Candidate for your suffrages, I take this early opportunity of removing doubt on the point by plainly saying it is my Intention one a again to seek your votes, with political views that have undergono no material change since I last solicited your confidence. Recent political events must, I think, have served to point unmistakably to the necessity in this community ot some base for united and concerted action being taken by Its members on leading questions, That necessity is one that I hold to be of piimary Importunce—let the shade of Individual opinions differ as it may on minor matters. Your very obedient servant, JOHN BUCHANAN.
