WOODVILLE.

■————"- w (FROM. OCR OWN COBBESPOMDKIITS.; October 315t,,11881. Here we are busy about elections only, and I have refrained . from writing for some time owing to the sapient" which have appeared in all the Hawke ■ Bay papers, which rendered my correspondence unnecessary. What little news I have raked up I give. l! Owing to our unprotected state, we have been suddenly seized with a most martial and patriotic Bpirit, and nothing less than a volunteer corps will satisfy us, _ Accordingly tbe young men are rolling up,

and should the Government trust us with arras I greatly fear that our town and settlements will be almost depopulated, since nothing but going to the front will satisfy our craving. From the class of men which could be raised here I may ■afely vouch that there are few corps in tbe colonies which would show a hardier front, so I sincerely bope that tbe Government will do their best to encourage us. I hear that Mr Towers, of the Matamau Hotel gave a housewarming to his new hotel which passed off very successfully. A slight accident happened to a bnshman working for Mr G. A. King, which has incapacitated bim from work for some time. From what I hear I believe it is little less than a miracle that be was not killed. Iconld continue this letter if I entered Into politicol questions, but I have ever made it a point never to throw down or pick up a gage of battle on a subject I know nothing about.
