October 28. An influential deputation of leading Irishmen waited yesterday upon Mr Gladstone at Knowsley to lay before him certain facts in connection with the payment of rent in Ireland. The Premier, in reply, stated that the Land Commission had so far shown that it worked well, and be was hopeful tbat its decisions would result in securing permanent peace andii prosperity to Ireland.
