[Rbutie's Special to Telegeaph.J LONDON. October 26. The Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone is now on a visit to the Earl of Derby at his seat at Knowsley. October 27. The Times has a leading article to-day commenting upon the position of native affairs in New Zealand. In the course of its remarks the Times expresses a hope that the New Zealand Government will show much forbearance towards the Maoris in dealing with the difficulty which has arisen on the West Coast. A large number of additional cases are daily being submitted to the Irish Land Commission which is now sitting for the settlement of questions brought before it for decision under the provisions of the Land Act. The cargo of beef brought per steamship Garonne was sold to-day at the Smithfield market, and the carcases realised an average of 4d per pound. The cargo had been partially displaced in the refrigerating chambers owing to the severity of the weather on the voyage, and the meat was therefore not in the best condition.
