WAIROA.

(FROM our own corresponded.; October 22, 1881. It ia proposed to give a grand public picnic on Boxing Day at Frasertown in connection with the Church of England movement in that district. During the week we have loat one of our oldest settlers. Dr. Ormond has left for Christchurch, taking the rest of his family with him. Captain Freece, R.M., held a sitting of

the Court on Thursday, and disposed of one criminal and a number of civil cases, none of which are of any account. • I am given to understand tbat tbe Governmen' have accepted Mr R. Gardiner's phms aud prices for the alterations to me Court House, and that the work is to be completed by the 25th W of November. fL The clever Lydia Howarde troupe arrived here on Friday, and propose to entertain us to-night and on Monday night at the County Hall. From what I can hear it is probate we shall get a treat. On dit that Mr G. Wilson, of Poverty Bay, is a candidate for the East Coast. I hear that a few influential gentlemen here who admire his liberal land views intend Bending him a requisition with the view of getting those views more fully explained on tbe platform. If he comes I could almost guarantee him a vote of confidence. Tbe news that Mr Bryce had joined— or rather re-joined—the Ministry, and that decisive measures were likely to be taken against Te Whiti, was received here with satisfaction. The majority of people cannot help feeling tbat tbe dignity of the Crown is sullied every day the Parihaka fanatic is permitted to go at large.
