RAILWAY MANAGEMENT.

[To the Editor of the Daily TELEQIiAPH.I Sir,—A most unwarrantable and uncalled for attack appeared in your issue V. of the 19th instant relative to the manage- JT ment of the Makatoku-Napier line of ; railway. I consider, Mr Editor, that .__ the conduct of "Visitor" in flying to the public print to vent his spleen and disappointment in not catching yesterday morning's train is not only particularly unedifying but reprehensible in the highest degree, as it is calculated to mislead the general puolic as regards the best managed and most successful of Government institutions. Being on the platform yesterday morning, I had the opportunity of observing the circumstances, and particularly the behaviour of " Visitor" and his so-called gentlemen companion?, and it does appear to me simply preposterous that a railway train once started should be expected to turn back to pick up five or six men, particularly as they had neither their tickets for themselves and the two or three dogs accompanying them, nor was their luggage on the platform as " Visitor" states, but in the attending cab. As regards the behaviour of these five above mentioned gentlemen, I have only to remark, in conclusion, Mr Editor, that had I been in tbe station master's position, these enterprising gentlemen and I would have been figuring in the R.M. Court this morning for using abusive language, calculated to create a breach of the peace.—l am, &c, Tauanaki. October 19, 1881.
